.These extremely elaborated
sweetmeats are prepared from a dough into which slithers of sliced almonds
are delicately folded.
Each exemplar is a minuscule sculpture: little vases, tiny shoes or diminutive
baskets being the most usual.
Their glazed surfaces are then embroidered with threads of sugar and decorated
in confectioner's gold - s'indoru. Their name derives from the festivity
- Candlemas, in earliest February - for which they were traditionally prepared
and distributed.
